The Finance Ministry announced, the 43rd G S T Council meeting chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be held via video conferencing at 11 am in New Delhi on 28th May 2021. Last year the G S T meeting was conducted virtually on October 5, 2020. That meeting went on till October 12 for finalizing a centralized borrowing system to meet the revenue shortfall.
Earlier this week, West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra wrote to Smt.Sitharaman asking to convene a long-pending meeting of the G S T Council soon. The reason he stated was that the states are expecting a shortfall in Goods and Services Tax(G S T) compensation because of the issues due to the second wave of Covid-19 .
The official report says the upcoming G S T meeting will discuss certain key issues such as Compensation to states and waivers on various medicines, medical devices, and health services amid the covid pandemic.
