Speaking at the 73rd general meeting of the Indian Banks’ Association. Sitharaman said there are several bank accounts in the country that have not yet been linked to Aadhaa. It is an important measure for financial inclusion she adds.
Nirmala Sitharaman also asked banks to discourage non-digital payments and promote digital payment techniques including UPI-driven payments. “UPI should be a common parlance word in all our banks,” Sitharaman said.
The finance minister said the digital inclusion in the banking system will help close loopholes and make the system smoother. She also told banks to promote RuPay cards.
“Whoever needs the card, RuPay will be the only card you will promote,” she said.
