News Link: BMW’s Subscription-Based Speed Trap Warnings
BMW is offering yet another subscription service. This time, the company is allowing you to subscribe to speed trap warnings.
Using the car’s infotainment system, a network of radar detectors, and a database of fixed speed cameras. BMW’s ConnectedDrive system will notify you if you’re nearing a speed trap in its database. Relying on users to report every speed trap the system will reportedly be largely automated. This kind of thing is already popular in countries throughout Europe and Asia. But only for where fixed camera-based speed enforcement is the norm. But BMW is bringing it to America and apparently including radar and laser detector integration.
It’s unclear whether the radar detectors will be built into the car or not. It may be connected with an external detector. We also don’t know what models it’ll be available in or when it’ll hit the market, though we’ve reached out to BMW for confirmation on those details. What we do know is it won’t come free. The services free for the first 3 months, thereafter 25$ for 15 months with the purchase of an eligible new BMW
