News Link: Children Produce Weaker Fewer Antibodies than Adults
A recent study has found that children infected with coronavirus produce weaker, and fewer types of antibodies. It is less than adults do, helping them recover faster from the deadly virus.
It has also suggested that a weaker immune system may be responsible for children recovering from the virus faster.
The study elaborated that a weaker immune system helps children to battle the virus faster. And it makes them less likely to spread the infection.
Other studies have indicated that a strong immune system might be the reason for aggravating the infection and serious illness in people infected with the coronavirus.
Having weaker and fewer antibodies would not mean that children are more vulnerable to re-infection, other experts said.
“You don’t really need a huge, overly robust immune response to maintain protections over some period of time,” said Deepta Bhattacharya, an immunologist at the University of Arizona in Tucson. “I don’t know that I would be especially worried that kids have a little bit lower antibody response.”
The study observed children’s antibody levels at a single point in time. However, it was too small to provide insights into how the levels may vary with age. It raises questions for certain antibody tests that may be missing children who have been infected.
Analysis says that a vast majority of people infected with the coronavirus mount a robust immune response, as per studies.
