It was part of the company’s moderation policy to give special consideration to the news posted by and about politicians. It was considered that their news gets more attention and needs to give more importance to its algorithm.
As per the latest news, Facebook is going to consider all its users with equal importance. Effectively, it will affect politicians and their posts adversely.
The move is as per suggestions by its board members who are reviewing its moderation policies from time to time.
As per existing policies, baseless allegations and rumours by politicians were not coming under offensive contents. But with news changes, they will also be treated like ordinary citizens’ posts.
However, it is also facing allegations by critics that it is the violation of the statement by C E O Mark Zuckerberg that Facebook will stand for open and independent expression of views and news by its users.
