Former Indian cricket team captain and legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev suffered a heart attack on Friday before undergoing angioplasty at a hospital in New Delhi. Kapil, 61, has recovered and is doing fine at the moment, sources said.

Wishes for speedy recovery poured in from the sporting group with the likes of Shikhar Dhawan and Saina Nehwal posting messages to the cricket great on social media. Kapil Dev’s former India teammate Madan Lal said the former captain was taken to the hospital in time after he complained of uneasiness.

Kapil Dev was one of the players involved in transforming Indian cricket and his World Cup-winning team.

India saw quite a few legends after, including Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid.

Coming from a small town in Haryana, Kapil Dev broke quite a few barriers and showed the way for hundreds like him who followed the path he had treated with more confidence. Kapil Dev last played for India in October 1994. In a glorious career that spanned 16 years. In Addition, Kapil took 687 international wickets and scored over 9000 runs in 356 matches. With an ability to strike the ball as cleanly as anyone else in the game.

Kapil was a dangerous batsman. His ability to swing the ball both ways at pace brought him success as a bowler. Years before the fitness factor began in Indian cricket, Kapil Dev had set the bench mark by keeping very good fitness levels that helped him be the work horse he was.

Following his retirement, Kapil Dev took on various roles and made sure he remained active in the cricket circle. Also, Kapil served as India coach before the infamous match-fixing saga as the head of the Cricket Advisory Committee as recently as 2019.
