Kfon – Kerala’s Much Awaited
What is Kfon? Kfon (termed as K Phone by many) is the Short Form of Kerala Fibre Optic Network.
Kerala’s KFON Network’s first phase will be inaugurated on 15th February 2021 By Kerala Chief Minister Shri Pinarayi Vijayan. Upon inauguration, all the District Network Operating Centres and the Central Contron System will be activated.
The Final date of completion of whole project will be in July Or August 2021.
The Kfon project is one of the largest and latest technological advancement projects in the state. This is a Optical fibre Cable network project that is set to serve every farthest and nearest places in Kerala. This will bring high speed data and telecommunication service to the Village Areas as well as Townships at same price. Current network operators are concentrating only in Urban Areas of high user concentration. Cabling in rural area is not cost effective as longer cabling and fewer customer base is the scenario.
Connecting Date:
Initially, it aims to connect all Government Offices and Educational institutions in the state. Residential or Home connections will activate by the month of July 2021. The main purpose of the cable network is to provide free and good quality internet connection to more than 20 lac BPL families in the state.
The networking is working on a 4-step manner. First stage is the Core Stage. The speed of data is 80 GPBS. The Seocnd Stage speed is 40 GBPS, 20 GBPS and Last and the end level speed will be 10 GBPS when fully operational.
Cabling and Networking is by KFON – maintenance and operation by Kerala State Electricity Board and Central Data Processing Centre at Infopark Kochi. The whole networking is peroming using a Ring Topology Mechanism for Uninterrupted networking and data processing. (Cick to read about Ring topology here)
