Performance Grading Index(PGI) Released for 2019-20

Union Education Minister, Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal released the Performance Grading Index (P G I) 2019-20  for States and Union Territories today.

Punjab, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Kerala occupy the top positions in the list securing the highest Grade A++ for 2019-20. In comparison to the P G I score for earlier years, most of the States/UTs have improved their grade in 2019-20.

P G I for States and Union Territories was first published in 2019. The Central Government has set the PGI with 70 parameters to encourage transformational change in the field of school education.

PGI Scores of certain States /UTs :

Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Puducherry, Punjab and Tamil Nadu have increased their overall P G I score by 10% i.e., 100 or more points.

The report also states Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Punjab has improved by 10 %( 8 points) in the PGI Domain: Access.

Thirteen other states and UTs under the Central Government have shown improvement by 10 %( 15 points) in the domain of Infrastructure and Facilities.

While Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Odisha has also reported a 10 % improvement in the domain of equity.

P G I’s are introduced to make sure that the school education system is strong at all levels. It also helps states and union territories to find the gaps in the existing system and thus prioritize areas of intervention accordingly.
