Predictions are tough. Predicting the future of technology is tougher. Who would have predicted twelve months ago that video calling apps would be that biggest trend of 2020. Yet, here we are. The pandemic and lockdown in different parts of the world boosted sales of personal audio sales. Which gave a new life to the laptop segment and made video conferencing the new normal. And, as we enter into a new year, it’s time to look a some major technology-related announcements. Trends that we are eagerly waiting for and can define the industry over the next 12 months.

Jio 5G

Jio disrupted the telecom industry in a way that none predicted. It is set to create another wave with the launch of 5G tech, hopefully in the second half of 2021. The 5G networks are already available and have become popular in several countries. India is not one of them. Recently, Mukesh Ambani announced that it could change as Jio is set to launch 5G in the latter half of this year.

The arrival of 5G will impact both enterprises and individuals. It will provide faster internet speeds, allowing high quality video content and online gaming.

The Future of phone chargers could be bigger than what it looks like. Apple has already ditched charging bricks from its retail boxes. Citing environmental reasons and almost all the major Android smartphone makers are likely to follow the route. However, the impact will be different. In the case of Apple, the charging technology hasn’t changed much over the years. But the Android makers have been using it as a big selling point.

Most flagship-level smartphones come with chargers that can juice up your devices anywhere between 30 to 50 minutes. If the chargers are removed and customers are asked to pay for them separately, fast charging will again become a luxury. Only those who could afford, will get it.

The mobile gaming industry is set to grow in India. Irrespective of the fact whether PUBG Mobile India makes a return or not. Its ban has given an opportunity to several global as well as Indian developers to rise on mobile platforms. However, PUBG Mobile India’s comeback can trigger a new wave of interest. Hopefully starting a new era for the mobile gaming industry in India.

Not to forget, at some point we will also be introduced to FAU-G another game which has been making several headlines lately. The rivalry between the two and experience offered to users will decide the fate of mobile gaming in the country.

Samsung

The Samsung Galaxy Note was a revolutionary smartphone. It created a new ‘Phablet’ category altogether. It has been doing exceptionally well because of the high-productivity element. But, all good stories come to an end. So will this one. Although, it will be interesting to see whether this happens in 2021 or not.

The South Korean electronics maker has been dropping hints that it plans to attach the S-Pen to the Galaxy S21. And focus more on foldable smartphones, leaving the Note series’ future hanging. If it actually decides to kill the Note series, it will be a significant moment for smartphone enthusiasts.

Throughout 2020 there were so many conversations around Apple. Whether it will be able to launch the new iPhones and MacBooks in time. Both the line ups have been huge success, especially the M1 chip powered Mac devices. That have given Apple a significant advantage over others.

The Cupertino-based tech giant is expected to be in hot form even in 2021. We are already hearing that is working on self-driving cars. The technology is still far from being introduced but we can hear some details from the company at some point. There could be more surprises coming from the Apple park.
